Heat Treatment
Amethyst a six sided crystal are found within geodes across the globe is comparatively hard gem, as is quartz. Amethyst is found in a crystal as well as in mass form. Amethysts contain Manganese and are not always found natural. To get the darker shade of purple it is given a heat treatment. Amethyst loses its color when heated and so should not be exposed to heat and sun, but on the other hand gets invigorated under the light of moon. On intensely heated the sweet purplish color gets transformed to yellow creating a new gemstone – Citrine. When Citrine and Amethyst grow together they get the marginal band of purple and orangey yellow giving the name “Ametrine”.

Amethyst gemstones are found in many parts of the world; Southern Brazil and Uruguay comprises the largest deposits in the world, followed by Madagascar. Idar-Oberstein in Germany and Ural Mountains in Russia also have the traces of Amethyst Gemstones.
